Somalia: FEIT chair denies reports of clearing Fahad Yasin's Lower House seat

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Former spy chief Fahad Yasin has been permanently locked out of parliament after the nullification of the HoP086 seat election results, further injuring his hopes of clinging to the country's leadership even after the removal of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

Throughout Farmajo's administration, Yasin was viewed as the link between Villa Somalia and other entities, including clandestine deals that saw the country pay a heavy price. Yasin also worked as Director-General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA].

On Monday, the Federal Elections Implementation Committee [FEIT] which has since been dissolved by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble denied claims it had been considering clearing Fahad Yasin's seat to continue serving as a federal Member of Parliament.

The chairman of the defunct committee Muse Gelle Yusuf insisted that before the committee was dissolved, there were no plans to release the seat won by Fahad Yasin in Feb election in Beledweyne but was suspended following days due to massive claims of rigging.

While speaking to BBC Somali service, Muse Gelle dismissed the reports, adding that there were plans to elect another representative to fill the gap. He said delegates from Beledweyne will be allowed to elect another person to represent them.

On Sunday, the PM Mohamed Hussein Roble insisted that the election of the disputed seat will be supervised by National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC).
