​Somalia: Hirshabelle state forms first batch of the Police forces in the region

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia- The President of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Hirshabelle, has officially announced the formation of the first batch of state Police forces during a graduation ceremony held in Beledweyne town, Garowe Online reports.   

Attending the event at the Police headquarters, President Ali Abdulahi Osoble handed over the official credential for the Police cadets after they completed the training program. 

Accompanying President Osoble, were top state officials including Hirshabelle Minister of Security, Mohamed Ibrahim Ali and the Governor of Hiran region, Omar Adan Deeqow who participated in the official ceremony.  

The officials congratulated the cadets for the completion of the training and vowed to provide government salaries, necessary equipment and vehicles to carry out their duties.

The forces will be first that Hirshabelle will have since formation end of last year. Osoble urged the forces to fulfill their responsibilities to serve their people, the state and strive hard to enforce security in the region.

Following the ceremony, Osoble and state officials conducted site visit inside the Police headquarters to oversee the expansion project to build many facilities within the compound.

Hirshabelle state which formed end of 2016, has faced many obstacles including dispute between clan elders of Hiiran and Lower Shabelle, insecurity and lack of government offices for the new state cabinet.
