KISMAYO, Somalia – Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe, has praised Puntland's efforts in fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Bari region's Al-Miskaad mountains, highlighting the counterterrorism actions as pivotal for regional peace and security.

In a statement Monday, Madobe praised Puntland's commitment to combating ISIS and Al-Shabaab and stressed the importance of unity in addressing the threats of the two groups. He called for enhanced collaboration among Somalia's Federal states to tackle the security crisis.

"Unity and collaboration among Somali communities are crucial to defeating extremist groups," Madobe declared. "I urge Puntland to persist in its endeavors to surmount the security challenges our nation faces."

He specifically acknowledged Puntland's success in the "Hilaac/Lightening Operation," which targets ISIS enclaves in the remote northeastern parts of Somalia. Madobe described these military achievements as a hopeful sign for all Somalis aspiring for peace and stability.

"The victories by Puntland's forces reflect their courage and resolve," he noted. "These efforts inspire the Somali nation and showcase what can be achieved through united action."

Madobe called upon both the global community and Somali citizens to back Puntland's operations to secure a lasting victory against ISIS and other militants. He emphasized that ongoing support and collaboration are essential for stabilizing Somalia.

Puntland's military actions are focused on dismantling militant bases in the Bari region's rugged mountains, with experts suggesting that regional teamwork and international support are fundamental for lasting peace in Somalia.

On Monday, Puntland Defense Forces captured nine drones — including both surveillance and explosive-laden types intended for attacks on military bases — in an operation dubbed "Operation Lightning," officials said.

The seizure came after a clash with Islamic State militants in which the forces also recaptured key strategic areas in the Al-Miskaad mountains previously used as launch sites for attacks. Dozens of militants, including foreign fighters were killed since the start of the offensive last month.
