Somalia: Jubaland President meets former warlord Col. Barre Hirale

KISMAYO, Somalia August 30, 2014 (Garowe Online)-The President of Jubaland administration Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) has held talks with former warlord Col. Barre Adan Shire (Barre Hirale) at AMISOM base in the southern port city of Kismayo on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Col. Barre Hirale arrived in Kismayo under the escort of 50 bodyguards following four-day mediations in his stronghold of Goobweyn.

Jubaland leader Madobe and Barre Hirale gathered for closed-doors meeting at Kismayo University where AMISOM uses as anti-terror operation base. The discussions centred on the second phase of Jubaland Reconciliation Conference which will be held in strategic Kismayo seaport.

In advance of the highly anticipated talks, President Madobe hosted luncheon for Col. Bare Hiraale.

Col. Bare is expected to depart Kismayo for Mogadishu in the coming days to meet with Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed.
