A high-level delegation led by Djibouti President Ismail Omar Gelle has arrived to Mogadishu's Aden Adde International Airport, to attend the inaugural ceremony for the new President of Somalia Farmajo.

Leaders from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan and Ethiopia are also expected to attend the inauguration of  the new Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo who was elected on February 8.

Diplomats and key dignitaries from the world are also arriving in Mogadishu, and heading to the stage of the inauguration at Air Force headquarters base inside the main airport.

Farmajo's election is seen as a step forward to democracy for Somalia, which has not had an effective central government since the collapse of Siad Barre's military regime in 1991 that led to civil war and decades of anarchy in Somalia.

The overall security of the Somali capital has been beefed up and a curfew was put in place, with streets and airport locked down on Tuesday ahead of Farmajo's inauguration.
