Mogadishu, Somalia Sept 21, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has named head of Mogadishu-based military court Abdirahman Mohamed Tuuryare as the new National Intelligence Chief on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Mohamud assigned Tuuryare-close presidential aide- to the post according to multiple independent sources.

The nomination comes shortly after Somalia President agreed to the sacking of former Boss Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloshe who was fired in extraordinary cabinet meet.

GO has learned that international pressure mounted on Mohamud over his opposition to the move that led the ouster of Sanbaloshe in a bid to halt political infighting.

Tuuryare sentenced dozens of suspected Al Shabaab members to death during his tenure of office.

Human Rights watchdog criticized Mogadishu-based military court for carrying out sentences that run counter to international standards.
