​Somalia: Newly appointed Mayor of Mogadishu takes office

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The new Mayor of Mogadishu, Thabit Abdi Mohamed assumed the office from his predecessor Yusuf Hussein Jimale during a hand-over ceremony held in the capital, Garowe Online reports.

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, Minister of Interior Abdi Farah Saed "Juha", parliamentarians, traditional elders and other officials attended the oath-taking event held at Municipality complex.

The new Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Benadir region has praised the tremendous achievements of the outgoing Mayor Jimale during his term in office and assured to keep the progress moving forward.

He has stated that he will resume the work and continue to develop the progress of the region, deal with the corruption, insecurity and appealed for a solid cooperation from the people of Mogadishu.

Mohamed became the Deputy Chief Mission of Somali Ambassador in U.S. during the past government led by former President Hassan Shaikh Mohamud prior to his nomination as the Mayor of Mogadishu last week.
