MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali intelligence agency National Intelligence and Security Agency said on Sunday that its operatives killed at least 22 fighters from al-Shabaab, including several senior operational commanders, during two separate operations in the central regions of the country.

The agency said the first operation took place in Dumaaye, Mudug, where security forces targeted a gathering of militants, killing about 15, including leaders identified as Xudeyfa Galinle, Qataatow, Abdirahman Garwayne, Daahir and Abdiwali.

A second operation in Hiran targeted houses used by militants guarding Mustafa Caato. Seven fighters were killed, including two key figures in the group’s financial network, Qaliif Mumin Sabriya and Osman Abdulle Farah. Vehicles used by the militants were also destroyed.

NISA said the operations are part of an intensified campaign to dismantle militant networks and eliminate their remaining hideouts, reaffirming its commitment to pursuing armed groups that threaten Somalia’s stability.

The strikes come amid ongoing efforts by Somali security forces and international partners to weaken insurgent activity in the central regions.
