Somalia PM Roble under pressure over missing Intelligence officer
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is now facing a fresh push to issue a statement over a missing agent who was attached to the National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA], which is responsible for security briefs in the Horn of Africa nation.
For months now, Ikran Tahil, an officer attached to the cybercrime section, has been missing, but incidentally, the agency has never issued a statement with regard to the incident, raising questions about the sincerity of the team.
On Saturday, Qali Mohamud, the mother of the missing lady, asked PM Mohamed Hussein Roble about the whereabouts of her daughter. She asked the PM to step in and assist the family traces her whereabouts, adding that it was wrong to keep her waiting.
"I am quite concerned about the whereabouts of my daughter. I call upon the PM to cheap in and help us trace her whereabouts. The government has the responsibility of informing us what exactly happened to her," she said in a statement.
According to her, controversial NISA Director-General Fahad Yasin is reluctant to provide the family with details. She said the NISA boss has kept the family in darkness despite having the responsibility of informing them about the whereabouts of the missing daughter.
"He [Yasin], has kept us waiting for no apparent reasons. He is not giving any details and we feel he's reluctant. We urge the PM now to step up and help us trace her," said the tearful mother in her second attempt to persuade the Government to intervene in the matter.
Ikran Tahlil has been missing for two months now as former NISA high-level officials argue that she is likely to be assassinated. The assassination claims have not been admitted or rejected by the agency, which is usually accused of kidnappings among other vices.
A raw video clip that was obtained by Garowe Online two months ago, shows a vehicle approaching her house before she's approached by two men. Thereafter, she is bundled into the waiting car before it is sped off in an unknown direction.
Some reports indicate that she might have been killed and her body dumped in the outskirts of Mogadishu. However, NISA is yet to come out clear over the matter, thus the increasing pressure now being mounted on the government.
