​Somalia: President Farmajo chairs National Security Council after Mogadishu clashes

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo chaired a meeting for the National Security Council after a deadly clash between units within government troops in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.

The meeting brought together President Farmajo, Interior Minister, Defense Minister, Internal security Minister, Military chief, Police commissioner, Head of Intelligence agency, as well as governor of Benadir region.

During the council's meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, the officials discussed Wednesday’s shootout near National Theater building that left 6 soldiers, including senior Intelligence officer dead.

According to a statement released by the Presidency, Somali President appointed a committee made up of security officials and led by Police Chief General Abdihakin Dahir Said "Sa'ed" to investigate the fatal incident.

Subsequently, the team has inspected the scene of the clash late last night, and launched their probe into the main cause of the infighting, and expected to report back to the National Security council.

Speaking at the site, the chief of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Abdullahi Mohamed Ali  "Sanbalolshe" described the incident as 'horrible and unfortunate' adding that all those involved" in the shootout have been detained and are under investigation.

The Internal Security Minister Mohamed Abukar Islow said the skirmish between government security forces will not impact the ongoing stabilization operations in Mogadishu, and called public to stand with the law enforcement personnel.
