Somalia's Spy Agency Aided by Foreign Allies Kills 40 Al-Shabaab in Raids
MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA), in coordination with international allies, conducted a significant military operation in the Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions, resulting in the death of 40 al-Shabab militants, including senior figure Moalim Aarow, known for orchestrating several attacks. The operation, which spanned 24 hours, also left 29 insurgents wounded.
The offensive targeted key al-Shabab hideouts in the Yaaqle area of Middle Shabelle and various rural locales in Galgadud, effectively disrupting the militants' activities and destroying essential military supplies. NISA's statement highlighted that these actions have severely curtailed al-Shabab's mobility within these strategic regions.
This military engagement follows closely on the heels of another successful operation by Somali forces in Qeycad, southern Mudug region, where 30 al-Shabab fighters were killed, further demonstrating the government's intensified efforts against the Islamist group.
Somali officials noted that these operations were launched based on precise intelligence regarding Al-Shabab's movements, indicating a proactive approach to countering the insurgency with support from international partners.
The operations underline Somalia's ongoing efforts to combat al-Shabab, aiming to diminish the group's influence and operational capabilities within the country.
