Somalia: Senior military officer killed in a suicide bomb attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Senior Somali military officer was killed in a suicide bomb attack on Sunday in the capital city of Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports

General Mohamed Roble Jimle aka “Goobanle” and 4 soldiers died in a suicide bombing attack in the capital Mogadishu, General Yusuf Mohamed Siyad confirmed the reports to the local media.

Genral Goobanle was killed along with his body guards when a car loaded with explosives struck his vehicle along the Industrial road in the capital Mogadishu, witnesses told GO.

The deceased officer was the commander of the forces that taken part of military operations in Central and Southern of Somalia. Between 2001 and 2006, he was the deputy commander of Barre Hiraale militias that used to control Juba provinces. He was promoted to General during the Transitional Federal Government term and was appointed as the commander of government forces in Middle Shabelle province.  

No group claimed responsibility of the attack but Al Shabab militants have carried out similar attacks against security forces, government officials and AMISOM troops in a bid to overthrow the western backed Somali government.
