Somalia shows solidarity with Turkey after Ankara bombing
MOGADISHU, Somalia, October 11, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somalia’s Federal Government said, it stands in solidarity with Turkish government and people after two consecutive blasts claimed at killed at least 95 people in Ankara on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
According to a press statement from office of Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, the Somali government is mourning the victims of the attack and prays for swift recovery of those wounded in the deadliest terrorist attack on Turkish soil in history.
Prime Minister Sharmarke expressed his heartfelt condolence over the painful incident, wishing bereaved families ‘comfort and patience’.
Moreover, he stressed that Somalis remained committed to standing by their Turkish brothers and sisters.
Turkey stepped up its involvement in the war-ravaged East African nation, awarding hundreds of students with scholarship positions, and funding flagship projects, largely in the capital, Mogadishu.
Then Prime Minister-and now-Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Somalia twice, becoming firs non-African leader to set feet at Mogadishu’s seaside airport in business suit at the height of worst famine in 2011.
Turkish flags are being flown at half-mast for a three-day national mourning across the country.
