GALKAYO, Somalia - At least six people, including three children, were killed in an explosion and an attack on passenger vehicle occurred in different parts of Mudug region, Garowe Online reports.

Regional authorities said the young children from nomadic families died in Docolo-ooman locality after playing land mine bomb they discovered at the roadside exploded.

The residents rushed to the scene following the explosion, and found the dead bodies of the three children lying scattered on the ground. The locals have expressed shock and worry about the tragedy.

The civil war has left parts of Somalia littered with potentially deadly explosives and ‘unexploded’ grenades which still pose threats to the lives of civilians, mainly children of the rural communities.

In a separate incident, three civilians are reported to have been killed and several wounded in a passenger bus attack in Saaho area, located south of Mudug region in central Somalia on Tuesday.

The incident took place after unknown gunmen opened fire at a vehicle travelling from Saaho to Bandiiradley village in the same region, according to residents, who spoke to GO over the phone.

Several people were also injured in the shooting and taken a hospital in Bandiiradley for treatment.

It is not known reason behind the shooting of the civilian bus, but reports that the incident was linked to a clan revenge, which has been constant in the rural areas of Mudug region over the past few years.
