MOGADISHU, Somalia - Mogadishu has joined dozens of other governments in condemning a deadly attack in Yemen which was reportedly engineered by Houthi rebels, and that left dozens of people dead in the latest wave of violence within the Middle East country.

The attack targeted Aden airport within the country's capital Sanaa just as Yemen Prime Minister and other government officials arrived from Riyadh, the Saudi Arabia capital where they had visited for an official trip on bilateral relations.

About 20 people were killed in the deadly attack. Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Sa’id said he was fine, but several ministers have reportedly been killed in the attack which is one of the worst plots targeting government officials.

“The Federal Government of Somalia condemns an attack consisting of three explosions which on 30 December targeted the airport in Aden, Yemen, which resulted in the death and wounding of tens of innocent civilians," read the statement from FGS.

"The Foreign Ministry reaffirms that the Federal Republic of Somalia stands with Yemen,” added the statement from the foreign ministry, which was done in solidarity with the Middle East country that has been battling with violence.

The government has accused Houthi rebels, who are at war with the Saudi-backed government, of being behind the attack. The rebels have been fighting to topple the Yemeni government for the last decade but their efforts are yet to beat fruits.

Both Yemen and Somalia are struggling to rebuild after years of violence and their respective administrations are often targeted with terror groups and rebels. Somalia particularly is dealing with Al-Shabaab militants who have been fighting FGS since 2008.
