Somalia: Three killed in charcoal shooting in Lower Juba

KISMAYO, Somalia-Al Shabaab militants shot and killed three civilians in Lower Juba region of southern Somalia according to residents, Garowe Online reports. 

The gunmen fired at people cutting trees for charcoal burning in Buurgaabo, 240km southwest of the southern port city of Kismayo.  

The incident also left six people wounded, locals have reported. 

The Somali militant group imposed ban on charcoal burning and exports in areas under their control in Lower Juba region.  

UN report disclosed that illegal exports of Somali charcoal earned Al Shabaab tens of millions of dollars, prompting UN Security Council to approve shipment inspection in Somalia waters.
