Adado, Somalia- A Kenyan woman kidnapped by the Somali pirates and held hostage for more than 18 months in Galgudud region has been freed after a ransom was paid, Garowe Online reports.
The woman whose name wasn’t identified was handed over by pirates to state officials in Adado town in Central Somalia in Sunday, after payment of undisclosed amount. However, the Kenyan woman is expected to be relocated to the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.
This is the second case where Somali pirates have released hostages within a month in Central Somalia.
On 22 October, Somali pirates have released 26 sailors who held under captivity since a ship hijacking nearly five years ago.
On the other hand, piracy at Somalia’s Gulf of Aden was reported to have declined to its lowest level in six years since its peak in 2011, according to a maritime watchdog.
