Voters registration underway in Somaliland

BORAMA, Somaliland- Hundreds of people flocked to offices of Electoral Board in Awdal region of Somaliland on Saturday, Garowe Online reports. 

The registrations exercise began in Togdheer and extended into extreme Awdal region where political parties are shoring up support for their manifestos. 

Garowe Online correspondent reported that people have queued in front of registration centers on Saturday morning.  Somaliland, an emerging democracy in lawless Somalia is planning to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in early 2017. 

Ruling party leader Musse Bihi Abdi who is also vying for Presidency under Kulmiye is among a group of politicians corralling support from community leaders.

Amoud University students and nearly 300 cars are involved in the voter registration endeavor in Awdal region. 

Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as  de facto sovereign State in 1991 but it has not been recognized.
