Israel to Close Dublin Embassy Over Irish Government's 'Extreme Anti-Israel Policies,' FM Says

DUBLIN, Ireland — Israel has decided to close its embassy in Ireland because of what it describes as "extreme anti-Israel policies" by the Irish government, according to a statement from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Sunday.

The move comes after Ireland announced its support for South Africa's legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of genocide. This follows earlier tensions when Ireland recognized a Palestinian state, prompting Israel to recall its ambassador from Dublin.

Saar stated that Ireland's actions reflect antisemitism, delegitimization, and demonization of Israel, crossing "all red lines" in diplomatic relations. He added that Israel will redirect its resources towards strengthening ties with nations that are more supportive of Israel's stance.

The embassy closure marks a significant escalation in the diplomatic rift between Israel and Ireland, highlighting ongoing disagreements over Israel's policies in the occupied territories and Ireland's vocal support for Palestinian statehood.
