Trump Halts Further U.S. Strikes on Iran as Diplomacy Gains Momentum

WASHINGTON, July 25 — U.S. President Donald Trump directed the military not to carry out strikes against Iran on Friday, bringing to an end 13 consecutive nights of U.S. attacks, Axios reported, citing two sources familiar with the decision.

The report said Trump's order came as Oman continued mediation efforts with Tehran over a possible agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has been disrupted by the conflict.

Despite the pause in military action, U.S. forces remain prepared to resume or intensify operations on short notice if circumstances change, according to the report.

Axios said Trump believes pursuing a diplomatic agreement at this stage represents the "smarter strategy," signaling a potential shift toward negotiations while maintaining military readiness.

Neither the White House nor the Pentagon immediately commented publicly on the report. Iran has also not officially responded.
