NAIROBI, Kenya - Moses Wetangula -Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker has urged political leaders to embrace dialogue to resolve the political differences .

The speaker made the call while he presided over the People Dialogue Festival (PDF) forum that kicked off earlier this week in Nairobi.

“In every election there must be a winner and a loser ,we went for an election with our competitors and we won fairly ,so the only thing is to ensure that Kenya remains united is to dialogue with our political competitor.” says Wetangula.

The forum which is in its 5th edition has always been organized by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-Kenya) that brings together over 40 political parties.

“Our goal is to create a safe space where young Kenyans can learn how to use dialogue as a mechanism of solving problems that affects them. This forum also helps the youth engage with well established politicians across the board.” adds Franline Mukwanja,Executive Director,CMD.

He pointed out the overall objective of the People Dialogue Festival is to provide a platform for political parties and other state and non-state actors to be in a political dialogue on governance reforms and socio-economic issues and to safeguard democratic gains.

Mukwanja further added “Right from the holy books, dialogue was the centerpiece of God’s communication with his people in the book of Isaiah we are called upon to come together and reason together.”

This year’s event themed ‘Competition and Collaboration in a Democratic Development’ is geared towards achieving good governance and democracy in our country.
