Uhuru condoles families of KDF soldiers killed by Al-Shabab

NAIROBI, Kenya - President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the families of five KDF soldiers who were killed after their vehicles ran over an improvised explosive device in Lamu on Wednesday morning.

The President also wished 10 others who were injured in the attack quick recovery.

"As the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, I condole with the Kenya Defence Forces, and with the families of the fallen heroes. I also wish the injured gallant soldiers a quick recovery," the President said in a statement.

The President assured KDF soldiers of full backing of the government in the fight against terrorism.

"..we will not relent in protecting the Kenyan people and our borders. My Government will work tirelessly in ensuring that the war against terrorism is won," he said.

The troops were on their way to fetch and distribute water to residents. Both the water bowser and lorry were damaged.

Al Shabaab has in the past launched attacks in Kenya targeting civilians, in revenge for Kenya moving its troops into Somalia in 2011.
