DARU-SALAAM, Somalia – A tragic incident has occurred in the Daru-Salaam area of the Mudug region, where 16-year-old Nimco Abdiwali Osman was brutally raped and stabbed to death. Her father, Abdiwali Osman, has accused her husband of conspiring against his wife in this heinous crime.

Nimco was married to one of the men accused in the rape and murder case. The father said his daughter was abducted by a group led by her husband from his house while he and her mother were away at the time.

Speaking to Garowe Online, her father revealed the horrific details of the attack, stating that his daughter had been viciously stabbed 60 times, suffering critical wounds that she succumbed later. The father is now demanding justice for his daughter.

Garowe Online has learned that three men have been accused in connection with the crime, and they were taken to the main prison in Galkayo on April 26. The investigation into the case is set to begin soon.

The incident took place on April 19, 2023, with those involved are in custody. However, the Puntland government has not yet initiated an investigation, and further information is scarce.

Puntland previously faced a similar tragedy in 2019 with the rape and subsequent murder of Aisho Ilyas, 12, in Galkayo. This recent event has put the region's justice system under scrutiny once again.

The girl was abducted near her home, gang raped, and then brutally killed in the town of Galkayo in February 2019.

The rape and murder of Aden sparked widespread public outcry and calls for justice. The hashtag #JusticeforAisha trended, while many chose to use her photo as their social media profiles.

Two rapists, Abdifatah Abdirahman Warsame, 24, and Abdishakur Mohamed Dige, 46, were executed in Feb. 2020 by firing squad in Bosaso, the port and commercial city of Puntland.

Rape incidents involving young girls and children are on the rise in Somalia, particularly in Puntland. Cultural practices have been criticized for shielding the perpetrators in such cases, leading to a lack of justice for the victims and their families.
