BOSASO, Somalia - Puntland Counter-Terrorism Forces made strategic advances in Cal-Miskaad mountains, the epicentre of the ongoing terror war, displacing the group in key frontlines, the the fight against ISIS gathers momentum.

Since January 2025, the forces, with the help of the US Africa Command, have managed to liberate several strategic caves in the Cal-Miskaad mountains where the militants had managed to expand their territories.

According to the military, the troops conducted operations against Cal Miskaat hideouts and took over Yucrinta and Goble areas in Baallade valley, killing several militants in the process, marking yet another significant achievement.

"Puntland defense forces have surrounded the Maraagaale water well in the Baallade valley in Calmiskaad mountains, after seizing control yesterday of the Yucrin water well, which had been a hideout for the ISIS militants," army officials said.

The Puntland Counter-Terrorism Forces have been pursuing the group targeting strategic towns in the process, with the outcome described as "significant" by those on the frontlines. Several fighters have died in the process.

The Cal-Miskaad mountains attracted the support from the US Africa Command, which has dropped numerous bombs in the pretext of aerial surveillance, helping ground troops in the process. The US army pledged more support for the regional troops.

Curiously, the Somali National Army is yet to respond to operations in Puntland, as the relationship between Garowe and Mogadishu took a significant nosedive due to outstanding issues between the federal government and the federal member states.

President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland and his Jubaland counterpart, Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe, accuse the federal leadership of undermining federalism. The two also accused Mogadishu of illegally changing the constitution.
