Somalia: Blast kills one, injures several in Bosaso
BOSASO, Somalia - A powerful explosion outside a Police station in Bosaso, the commercial hub and port city of Somalia's northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.
A Police official has confirmed to GO that the blast has resulted from an explosives-laden wheelbarrow, pushing by suspected militant trying who was a would-be suicide bomber targeting the Police HQ.
The security forces have fended off the bomber after stopping him outside before he reached the entrance of the police station. Officials and soldiers were present in the compound during the blast.
The officer said the explosion has killed only the bomber, with no casualties on the security personnel and nearby civilians. The Troops were put on high alert following the incident, according to the sources.
The footage taken at the scene of the explosion showed a dead body in the debris whose identity has not yet been confirmed, however, Police said an investigation is underway to find out the masterminds.
No group claimed responsibility for the foiled bomb attack, which was the latest in series of insecurity acts in Bosaso situated on the Gulf of Aden coast, some claimed by pro-Islamic State militants.
