GALKAYO, Somalia, December 8, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Ceasefire is holding and displaced residents, mainly in the vast north began returning to homes, Garowe Online correspondent has reported.

People are coming back in large numbers to see relative calm prevailing in restive Galkayo where Puntland and Galmudug forces fought in sporadic battles over the last few weeks.

On the main road leading from a string of nearby districts including Burtinle, Ba’adweyn and Harfo, as far as my eye could see, convoys of right hand drive vehicles, such as Naoh and Mark II as well as luxurious cars were switching positions.

Returnees piled their belongings on to vehicles in revived hope of stability and reprieve from conflict that claimed at killed at least 30 people.

“Actually, people have craved peace. A wave of families, typically extended households of Somalis were heading for Galkayo,” said GO correspondent, who had extensively been covering precarious Galkayo situations.

On December 2, Somalia Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke achieved success in perplexing endeavor, leaving yet another peace deal seemingly ‘materialized’.
