Both Yusuf and Waeys, who have been in posts for five years stood unopposed in former pirate hub.

Puntland Government officials including State Minister for Interior Ali Yusuf Jama and Nugal Governor Omar Abdullahi Farole attended the council election.

In media briefing shortly after the two choices, Jama pointed out that huge tasks are lying ahead of the re-elected officials, while also thanking Eyl residents for the smooth endeavor.

Nugal Governor Farole on his side praised the selection process devoid of differences, and called for close cooperation between commissioners and locals.

Re-elected Eyl officials addressed hundreds of people on a lot of development works, urging people to rally around them.

Puntland cleansed northeastern Eyl town along the Indian Ocean of piracy activities following intensified on-land operations.
