Somalia: Over 11k candidates sit Puntland exams

GAROWE, Somalia-11,122 students have begun sitting Puntland National Examination Board (PNEB) papers at 90 centers across the northeastern State on Saturday, Garowe Online reports. 

Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar along with Education Minister AbshirAw Yusuf has officially opened centralized exams for grade 12 and 8 students.

Of the total number, 4195 candidates are females, while 7813 are grade 8 students, Education Ministry said in statement.  

Yusuf added “students with disabilities make this year’s exam exceptional,” hoping that exams will be completed smoothly without any hitch by the weekend as per the schedule.  

Puntland Education Minister urged invigilators, proctors and supervisors to give due emphasis to standardized test. 

Puntland Vice President Omar on his side congratulated teachers, principals and students statewide on the beginning of PNEB and grade 8, the former being an academic school-leaving qualification awarded upon completion of form four class. 

He also wished thousands of students sitting for the week-long exam good luck with their papers.  

Puntland achieved harmonization of secondary syllabus between public and private schools in 2009.
