BOSSASO, Somalia-Puntland government in northern Somalia has put five Iranian fishing vessels seized in anti-illegal fishing operations off Qandala on display in Bossaso port city, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking to reporters at Bossaso seaport, Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) commander, Abdirizak Dirie Farah, said the five fishing boats boarded by Somali and Iranian sailors were making catches illegally in the waters of the Indian Ocean town of Qandala.

Farah added that all involved in the illegal fishing would appear before courts for the catastrophic practice off the coast of Somalia.

The operation comes as a government official in Maraya coastal village made an outcry over foreign trawlers onshore.

Armed protection guards fired into countryside in latest incident demonstrating the extent of pillage.
