Somalia: Puntland launches second phase of Bossaso airport project
BOSSASO, Somalia-Puntland government in northern Somalia has launched the second phase of Bossaso airport project at a well-organized event in Bossaso port city on Monday, GaroweOnline reports.
Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Sunday received IGAD and Italy High Level delegations for the expansion of Bossaso airport.
Ali alongside Federal Minister for Aviation Ali Ahmed Jama, Italian Ambassador to Somalia Farbizio Marcelli, IGAD Executive Secretary Ambassador Mahboub Maalim and Special envoy for Somalia Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Afey attended the colorful event in the State’s most populous city.
Puntland Civil Aviation Minister Hassan Haji Said told reporters that the second stage includes an additional 1km runway and the erection of modern terminal.
At the beginning of 2016, on January 8, Somali officials gathered for ribbon-cutting ceremony upon the completion of first phase. Puntland President expressed his appreciation for Italy’s funding for the second phase of flagship project.
Floored by tremendous progress, Somali Civil Aviation Minister Jama congratulated Puntlandpeople on the tremendous leap in economic infrastructure, saying Puntland sets example for the rest of the country. IGAD and Italian diplomats stressed their support for Puntland’s infrastructure endeavor.
Puntland Government has not specified a date for the beginning of construction works on Bossaso airport.
