Somalia: Puntland Police Arrest Woman in Killing of 14-Year-Old Girl

MUDUG, Somalia – Puntland police have arrested a 34-year-old woman who confessed to killing a 14-year-old girl, authorities said on Friday.

Hodan Mahmoud Dirie was taken into custody shortly after the body of Saabirin Saylan Abdulle was discovered. Police said Dirie will be formally presented in court.

The victim had lived and worked in Dirie’s household. Investigators examining the suspect’s mobile phone said they found evidence showing the girl had been subjected to repeated abuse and forced labor.

A postmortem examination revealed multiple injuries, including signs of strangulation and severe beating on several parts of her body.

The killing has sparked public outrage, with residents staging demonstrations calling for justice for the girl. Puntland police urged calm, assuring that the suspect will face legal proceedings under the law.
