Somalia: Puntland president receives new WFP country director

GAROWE, Puntland – The President of Somalia’s northeastern Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni has received a delegation from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Garowe on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

The state president held a meeting at his office in the presidential palace the new country director of the WFP in Somalia, Cesar Arroyo, accompanied by other senior officials from the UN mission.

According to a statement from the presidency, the talks dealt with the joint cooperation between the Government of Puntland and the World Food Programme and its activities throughout the region.

“The meeting point was to fortify cooperation between Puntland and the WFP in the humanitarian issues as the head of the Agency for Somalia, Cesar Arroyo is new to the job,” read the statement.

During the meeting, President Deni commended WFP for its wide-ranging work in the country and urged the UN aid agency to continue relief operations in Puntland and the country as a whole.

For his part, WFP Somalia Country Director who also met with Vice President Ahmed Karash stressed the full commitment and cooperation with Puntland for the success of several strategic axes of activities.
