Somalia: Puntland President returns back to Garowe
GAROWE, Somalia- The President of Somalia’s northeastern region of Puntland, Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas” has arrived back to the capital Garowe, following foreign trips to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ethiopia, Garowe Online reports.
President Ali was received by his vice President Abdihakim Abdullahi Omar "Amey", cabinet ministers, state parliamentarians, elders and members of the civil society upon his arrival to Garowe’s Airport on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference at Puntland State House, President Ali highlighted on the outcomes of his recent trips over the past two weeks, and said it resulted in bringing investments and development to the region.
"My trips to UAE and Ethiopia were fruitful in promoting several projects including development of Galkayo Airport and construction of Garowe-Eyl corridor by Ethiopia, which will begin shortly in the coming two months," he said.
During the press conference President Ali slammed his critics and defended his frequent trips amid a looming famine in the region, saying it brought needed projects to the region.
On the other hand, he stated that his visit to UAE focused on the development of Bosaso port by Dubai-based DP World, as Puntland Parliament speaker, Finance Minister and Port Minister are in ongoing negotiation to reach a deal with the UAE officials.
He also commended Puntland security forces and particularly Puntland Maritime Police Forces (PMPF) for freeing the hijacked oil tanker Aris 13 and rescuing the Sri-Lankan crew from suspected Pirates off the coast of Habo last week.
Ali welcomed the newly nominated cabinet ministers by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre on Tuesday, and pledged unwavering support to the upcoming Federal Government in Mogadishu.
