GAROWE, Puntland - Former Puntland President and Somalia's Upper House Senator, Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has condemned the latest outbreak of the inter-clan fighting on Nugal-Sool border, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at a press conference in Garowe, the capital city of Puntland state, Senator Farole called for an immediate ceasefire to the renewed tribal clashes that claimed the lives of at least 15 people.

The fight over water, pasture, and revenge killed erupted in the rural areas straddling between Sool, Nugal and Mudug regions, near Ethiopian border as Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali "Gaas' is in Burtinle for efforts to solve the skirmish.

"I’m shocked and very worried about the flare-up of the deadly clan battle while President Ali is in the region for the past few days on a peace mission," said Senator Farole.

Farole urged the local elders, religious leaders, politicians and scholars to work together on the cessation of the fighting which caused deaths of 15 people and massive displacement.

"If the situation remains Tit for tat and every side seeks an equivalent retaliation, the conflict will be endless," he added.

On the other hand, Farole suggested Somali Region in Ethiopia to help halt bloodshed and mediate between the warring clans in collaboration with the government of Puntland and relevant elders.

Finally, the Senator called for a reconciliation meeting in Garowe city with the aim to bring a lasting peace in the region and solve the long-standing dispute between the clans.
