CEELDHEER, Somalia – At least seven civilians were killed and several others injured Sunday when a vehicle traveling in a convoy struck a landmine on the outskirts of Ceeldheer district in central Somalia’s Galgaduud region, local officials said.

The wounded were later evacuated to Mogadishu for medical treatment, authorities added. Security officials blamed the attack on the militant group Al-Shabaab, which frequently targets roads used by government forces, though the al-Qaeda-linked group has not claimed responsibility for the incident.

“These attacks are part of Al-Shabaab’s ongoing efforts to intimidate civilians and disrupt government movements in the central regions,” a local official said. Residents have been urged to exercise caution when traveling on roads in the area due to the high risk posed by roadside mines.
