Egypt, African Union Discuss Deployment of Troops to Somalia Mission

Cairo, Egypt — Arrangements for the deployment of Egyptian forces to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) were the focus of a meeting Saturday between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and centered on coordination and planning for Egypt’s contribution to AUSSOM.

Officials discussed ways to enhance military cooperation and support for Somalia’s stabilization efforts under the African Union framework, highlighting the strategic role of Egypt in regional security initiatives.
