Ethiopia and Somalia Turn Page on Tensions, Begin New Chapter - Minister

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Mesganu Arga has announced Tuesday that Ethiopia and Somalia have moved past previous tensions, ushering in a new era of cooperation.

During an interview with ETV, Arga highlighted that the two nations have agreed to enhance their bilateral and regional relations following key agreements in Ankara, Mogadishu, and Addis Ababa.

The shift in diplomatic relations was underscored by a recent visit from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Ethiopia, signaling a significant turn in the relationship.

The Minister emphasized the historical and cultural ties between Ethiopia and Somalia, noting that their shared border, history, and culture form the bedrock of their long-standing relationship. He described the recent diplomatic efforts as a success in resolving past misunderstandings and fostering a mutually beneficial partnership.

"The essence of our connection lies in our shared journey through history and culture; we deserve to develop together," he stated, adding that both countries are committed to working collaboratively on economic development, mutual security, and peace initiatives.

The agreements mark a pivotal moment in Ethiopian-Somali relations, aiming to restore and enhance the diplomatic rapport to its former strength.
