Somalia: A plane carrying western officials crashes in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- A plane belonging to U.S.-based private military contractor Bancroft was reported to have crashed in the runway of Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday morning, Garowe Online reports.

Sources said western officials were on board on the plane that crashed due to mechanical failure in the landing gear. The plane was seen circling above Aden Adde International Airport to lose fuel before an attempt to land it in the runway.

However, the damages behind the plane crash is yet unknown but authorities said all passengers have survived and still conducting investigation into the incident. Ambulances also were seen rushing to the crash scene in the runway.   

Officials at Mogadishu Airport said all commercial flights were suspended from and to the Airport before the crash causing disruption to flights schedule for hundreds of travelers.

Bancroft company supports African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), also provide military training to the Somali national forces and its stationed in Halane compound located inside the Airport.
