Somalia: Al Shabaab executes 4 men for spying

BUALE, Somalia - Al Shabaab militants in Bualle town of Middle Jubba region have publicly executed four men accused of spying for the country’s Federal government on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

In a statement posted on its affiliated websites, the Al Qaeda-linked group confirmed the executions, which took place on Monday morning after the men were found guilty by its court in the district.

Hundreds of residents, including women and children, were forced to watch the killing of the alleged spy agents, according to Abdi Hassan, a resident in the town, who spoke GO over the phone.

Hassan added that dozens of masked fighters armed with Ak-47 rifles have tied up the four men in an open area and killed them by firing squad.

The group identified the victims as Abdirisack Hashi Abas, Mustaf Moalom Hassan, both blamed for working with Ethiopian Intelligence, Omar Adar Omar, 25, Mohamed Aba Mayow blamed for collaborating with NISA.

In areas under its control, Al Shabaab has carried out numerous executions, floggings, and amputations after summary trials in cases ranging from espionage to theft.

The militants, who are fighting to topple the UN-backed Somali Government previously executed members accused of spying for the AU mission (AMISOM) as well as the US.

This comes as Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo calls for a united approach to defeating Al-Shabaab which he blamed for the Oct. 14 truck bombing claiming over 377 lives.
