Somalia: Al Shabaab kills over dozen in car bomb attack
MOGADISHU, Somalia Sept 8, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Suspected Al Shabaab suicide bomber in car packed full of explosives hit a civilian mini bus on the road leading to Mogadishu from the market town of Afgoye according to witnesses on Monday, Garowe Online reports.
At least 20 people were lying in pool of blood near the wreckage from the explosion, eye witnesses said on Mogadishu-based radio station. The suicide bombing was meant for AMISOM convoy on the roadway ahead.
Shortly after thunderous blast, African Union forces cordoned-off Mogadishu-Afgoye highway where the car bomb attack occurred.
A spokesman for Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group Abdiasis Abu Muscab claimed credit for the attack, saying they targeted US military advisers and South African mercenary.
Al Shabaab Chief Ahmed Abdi Godane died in US airstrike near militant-most-friendly coastal town of Barawe.
Reacting to the blow dealt to Somali militant group, Somalia Federal Government warned of deadly retaliation and announced it put security agencies on standby for possible terror threats.
