Somalia backs Palestine in Arab League conference

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly backed Palestinians in the Arab League of Nations emergency meeting, with the conflict in Gaza deepening as Israeli forces continue to target the civilian population in the middle of the worst blockade in decades.

The escalating crisis in Gaza has attracted condemnation from around the world, with many United Nations members accusing Israel of extending the humanitarian conflict within Gaza despite genuine calls for a ceasefire.

With thousands of innocent civilians already dead and millions displaced, Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, Ali Abdi, took part in the urgent session chaired by Jordan.

Israeli continued bombardment of Gaza, the delay in humanitarian assistance, and loss of people were extensively discussed by the Arab League and Nations. Israel has refused to back down despite Hamas's reduced activities in Gaza.

The team criticized Israel’s proposal to set up a so-called “humanitarian city” in southern Gaza, calling it a veiled attempt at mass displacement and racial segregation. Member states denounced the plan as a “giant prison” and warned it posed a grave threat to Palestinian lives.

Somalia, Abdi said, would fully support the Palestinian cause while condemning the crimes against humanity being committed in Gaza.
He called for unified Arab action and global solidarity to end the suffering.

“The Palestinian people deserve justice, dignity, and protection under international law,” the envoy said in a statement that reflects the mood around the globe.

Israel is on the spot for inflicting mass murder in Gaza, with the world's superpowers accused of non-intervention. The US is working hard to broker a deal between Israel and Palestine in the middle of emerging conflicts between Israel and Iran, as well as Israel and Syria.
