Somalia: At least 10 die from poisoned drinking-water, scores hospitalized

MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 11, 2014 (Garowe Online)-At least 10 people died from poised drinking-water and as many as 100 others were hospitalized in Mogadishu’s Yaaqshiid district according to medics, Garowe Online reports.

Al though, no toxicology tests have been performed as of yet, the residents of Yaaqshid’s Jungal neighborhood are said to have used drinking-water fetched from newly-constructed well.

Patients at Madina hospital on Thursday exhibited diarrhea and vomiting symptoms.

Preliminary investigations indicate that contamination by increasing toilet facilities and poor sanitation of landfills could have caused the outbreak.

Federal Government of Somalia and International health agencies were not quick to comment on the unknown disease.
