Somalia: Berbera fuel depot privatization triggers gunfire

Berbera, Somalia, October 21, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The Privatization of fuel depots in Berbera Port City sparked local grudges, with armed militiamen spraying fuel tanker with bullets on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.
Sahil Governor, Fahmi Abdi Bidar told BBC Somali Service that two incidents involving gunfight occurred on Hargeisa-Berbera road over the last 12 hours.
Bidar said, police forces are on manhunt to catch and put ‘identified assailants’ behind bars.
Five men have been handed ‘a one-month prison sentence’ each for inciting local people against the government by committee in charge of security in Berbera’s Sahil region.
On Monday, Somaliland government handed over the management of fuel depots to six private companies, further irritating opposition parties.
In early September, Somaliland Parliament Speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, who also serves as Wadani party leader and his deputy Bashe Mohamed Farah traded punches in parliament over storage facilities.
Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as de facto sovereign state in 1991 but it has not been recognized internationally yet.
