Somalia: Federal election committee reveals challenges ahead of the election

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali’s Federal Indirect Electoral Implantation Team (FIEIT) has expressed its concern regarding preparation challenges it’s facing ahead of upcoming Somali election due to be held later this year, Garowe online reports.

Leaders of the Somali Federal government and regional administrations are attending the National Leaders Forum (NLF) Conference in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, started Tuesday to conclude the technical aspects of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections process.     

A document from FIEIT to the NLF leaders during the meeting revealed the obstacles FIEIT is facing to start preparations for the electoral process. Dispute in the traditional Elders list, Banadir region seats in the Parliament’s Upper House, Somaliland Elders seats, women share and stalled Hiiran-Middle shabelle state formation process are among the list.     

The document received by GO also showed FIEIT blaming the Somali leaders for their lack of act to swiftly resolve issues hindering the electoral process ahead of the parliamentary and presidential elections.

Somalia is in a race of time as the electoral process scheduled to begin soon and will be concluded in a presidential vote in less than two months. 

International Community has pledged fund support for the Somali election process last week.
