BARAWE, Somalia, January 3, 2016 (Garowe Online)-Somali government troops have fought each other in former Al Shabaab stronghold in southern Somalia according to officials and residents, Garowe Online reports.

A spokesman for Somalia Federal Government on Sunday said, five fighters from the warring sides have been killed in the deadly confrontation.

No reasons behind the clashes were disclosed to the media yet.

In 2013, similar clashes over clan loyalties and regional influence ensued between rival factions within Somali National Army (SNA).

Somali government troops aided by African Union peacekeepers removed Al Shabaab militants from the coastal springboard in October 2014.
