MOGADISHU, Somalia Nov 11, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Unidentified gunmen have targeted long serving Federal Member of Parliament Mohamed Omar Dalha in drive-by shooting in Mogadishu’s Hamar Jajab district according to security officials on Tuesday morning, Garowe Online reports.

Dalha escaped unhurt but his driver and a bodyguard succumbed to serious gunshot wounds at Madina hospital, medics confirmed.

The assailants who blocked Dalha’s car while driving into the parliament building sped-off in Toyota Noha shortly.

Nobody claimed credit for the attempt on the life of MP Dalha as Mogadishu-based central government is under pressure to abandon infighting.

Suspected Al Shabaab attackers have killed a number of lawmakers in volatile Mogadishu in broad day light shootings over the last few months.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers dislodged Islamist militants from key bastions in central and southern Somalia.
