Somalia: Former Somali President sworn in as a member of Federal Parliament
MOGADISHU, Somalia- Ex- Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was sworn in as a member of Federal Parliament without being elected by an electoral delegates on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
In accordance with article 64 of the constitution, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud became a life member of the house of the people after leaving the office of President of the Federal republic of Somalia on February, 2017.
Mohamud is now an additional constitutional member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, making the number of the elected lawmakers to 276, according to the speaker of the house of the people Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari.
The MPs of the 10th Parliament, both the upper and lower houses were elected by an 14,000 electoral college in a secret ballot from the capitals of the Federal member states in the country last December.
Hassan Sheikh who has been in power for 4 years between 2012-2016, has competed for a relection in February 8 presidential vote, but he lost to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, a dual Somali-US citizen.
