​Somalia: Huge explosion near Mogadishu port kills dozens

MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least 30 people were killed, and scores wounded in a massive car bomb blast at Mogadishu seaport on Sunday morning, Garowe Online reports. 

Capt Mohamed Hussein, a senior Somali Police officer said a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a police customs office at the city's main harbor during the rush hour in the morning. 

The powerful blast was heard in parts of the capital, and it sent plume of thick white smoke into the skyline. After the attack, ambulances were sent to the scene and rushed the wounded civilian to hospitals. 

Al shabaab group has claimed responsibility for the bombing and claimed killing 30 policemen, according to a statement broadcasted by Radio Andalus, its official affiliated media. 

The death toll is expected to jump as many people were critically wounded in the bombing. 

The attack is the second to be carried out by Al shabaab in 48 hours in Mogadishu and the nearby Sinka Dheer area, where a car bomb has killed at least 10 people including a security force member.
