KISMAYO, Somalia-Jubaland President Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) has called for the cessation of hostilities in central Somali town of Beledweyne on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

Madobe was speaking to reporters in the southern port city of Kismayo, just two days after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud bypassed Somali parliament and approved a controversial election model.

“I don’t understand the very meaning behind Beledweyne hostility but I in turn call for intensified efforts by Somalia Federal Government and regional government to stop the fighting,” said Madobe.

Jubaland leader indicated that the armed confrontations overshadow state formation conference in Middle Shabelle regional capital of Jowhar.

“We are all Somalis and it necessitates the need for us to stand up for each other.

We must bring grudges to an end and Hiran issue is no exception,” he added.

Meanwhile in Lower Juba region, heavy clashes are raging on between Kenyan-AMISOM forces and Al Shabaab militants, residents and officials said.

The fighting which flared up after militants ambushed a military convey is ongoing between Dhoobley and Tabto.

Al Shabaab has lost more ground against Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers in central and southern Somalia.
