Somalia: Jubbaland MP shot dead in Kismayo city

KISMAYO, Somalia - A member of Jubbaland state Parliament has been shot dead in Kismayo city last, Garowe Online reports.

Witnesses said unidentified assailants gunned down the regional MP, Abdikahim Jama Elmi (Tima-faras) near his house in the city's Alanley village. 

The killers managed to escape the scene before the arrival of the state security forces, who launched an investigation later.

No suspect was arrested in connection with the assissination of the Jubbaland lawmaker, sources said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the murder, however, suspicion falls on Al shabaab which often targets Somali officials.

Kismayo, is a port city in southern Somalia which serves now as the interim adminstrative capital of the Federal state of Jubbaland.
